Community and Young Arts Projects

Every year we look for ways to support art projects or activities in our local community under our Community and Young Arts sponsorship programme. The projects can be for either children, young people or adults and benefit an individual or a number of people.

There is no set format for Community and Young Arts Projects. Over the years the projects have covered a wide range of activities.

  • Artists in residence
  • Practical workshops
  • Bursaries for individual students
  • Grants for outstanding A level Arts students
  • Support for art and crafts in local primary and special schools
  • Support for music and drama productions
  • A grant to purchase resources for a pre-school art group
  • Support for community environmental art projects

We have found that even a small grant can make a big difference.

If you think you have a project or activity that might qualify, please go to "Our Society" in the tabs along the top of the home page, then Documents and you will find a form to print off and complete.

December 2023

Through our Arts programme we have supported an art group working with twelve children who are home educated. The two hour weekly club is run by Catherine Martin an art teacher we have worked with before. The aim of the club is to provide high quality art teaching for a group of young people who may miss out.

For this project Young Arts Co-ordination Helen Beck worked with the group on Dec 20th. She guided them as they made and decorated card and paper birds as a Christmas decoration. Other art activities were going on at the same time and children moved from one activity to another. Many parents were also present and involved as well.

The Arts Society Gravesend provided the materials for the bird project as well as Helen giving her time. 

APRIL 2024

In April 2024 we supported the art week in Ifield School - a school for special needs children. A company called Magic Lantern engaged the children in art work and Helen was delighted to attend the final show.  See the more detailed report in the section "NEWS" on the website.
